There is an intelligent force that resides within everything. Every life form is a unique expression of this consciousness. A rock, a tree, and a human are all made of the same esoteric material, just vibrating and manifesting at different energetic frequencies.
Some refer to this intelligent, omnipresent force as “Source”, “Spirit”, “Energy”, “the Divine”, or many other names. Regardless of the diverse words that are used to describe it, it is One. It transcends labels and language. The name you choose to call it does not change it.
Your Soul is a unique expression of this divine light that is programmed to evolve. Your Soul voluntarily incarnated into this body and these unique life circumstances with an eagerness to learn, grow, and contribute to the expansion of consciousness.
It will continue to exist afterwards. This is not likely your first life, nor your last. Spiritual amnesia is a natural byproduct of incarnation. Remembering and reuniting with your primordial Self is an intrinsic discovery on the spiritual journey.
We use these instruments to experience life on this material plane and learn from its many challenges. Earth is a difficult school: heavy, dense, and dualistic. Living in a human body can be arduous and painful. Great Souls choose great challenges.
Prana, also known as Chi (or Qi), is a vital essence that governs our nervous system and physiology. This intelligent life force nourishes and animates the body, allowing us to energetically interact with the world. In Yoga we learn to control the prana via the breath in order to cultivate a positive influence over our body, mind, and environment.
Yogic exercises aim to relieve tension, restlessness, energetic congestion, and other obstacles so that the vital life force can flow vibrantly through us, creating an ideal state from which to explore the deeper realms of being.
It also guides our vision to see beyond these physical limitations and reunite with our true self, our spiritual core, the source of our wisdom, the part of us who existed before this life and will continue to exist after.
Yoga is not bound to any specific religion and is practiced by people of all faiths, as well as people who are not religious. Your Yoga practice is a personal, inner journey that can be interpreted and modified in whatever way it speaks to you.
“Yoga” is a Sanskrit word that translates as “union”. Closer to the surface, this union manifests as a joining of body and mind, a balance of the physical and subtle energies that we are made of. At the deepest level, Yoga can be interpreted as a “yoking” of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness, a bonding of Self and the Divine.
When we are in communion with the divine consciousness within, not only do we feel better but we also become less enslaved by our senses and ego. Everything that we do becomes more powerful, meaningful, and influential because we are operating from a place of profound wisdom and higher purpose.
Originally from America's heartland, Amanda has been traveling and living in diverse environments around the globe for more than 25+ years, allowing her to explore different perspectives of Yoga, and life in general.
